Bottling day with Gorman Winery in Woodinville, WA

Applying labels to wine bottles
Winery owner Chris Gorman has been making wine for over a decade

Chris Gorman from Gorman Winery invited a team of Advanced Labels employees to participate in the bottling of The Devil You Don’t Know this month! For many of us, it was the first time we’d seen a wine bottling first hand. We spent a few hours with Chris and his team of volunteers on a beautiful spring day in Woodinville, Washington. We also met with Scott from Signature Mobile Bottlers, who kept the line running smoothly, checked wine levels and measured label application for machine applied accuracy.

Signature Mobile Bottlers Truck 2 is a compact and slick setup. Wine and empty glass bottles move in through the wide open back of the trailer, and with the cooperation of machines and volunteers, finished sealed cases go out  the same way. About one bottle per minute is completed with seven volunteers working side by side on the bottling line, and another four to six feeding the line or stacking pallets of full cases and whisking them away.

It all works wonderfully, and doesn’t feel like work. With Scott’s custom stereo pumping tunes from inside the Signature Mobile Bottlers trailer, everyone was focused on their tasks  but not nervous or stressed. Scott was ever present, checking every station of the bottling process and keeping the whole show running. The only time things seemed to slow down was during a label roll change, or when Gorman’s mom and dad started handing out lunch.

After a tour of the winery, working the bottling line and briefly chatting with Chris, we enjoyed a free lunch and were each gifted a bottle of The Devil You Don’t Know. With instructions to let it set for a week, we’re all anxious to try the latest Gorman Winery vintage.

For more information about Signature Mobile Bottlers, check out their website at signaturebottlers.com. The Oregon based mobile bottling company makes frequent and necessary trips to Washington during the busy season and many of our winery clients utilize their services. A big thank you to Scott for letting us knock around in the trailer while he patiently explained the process and gave us the chance to experience bottling first hand.

Of course none of this would have been possible without the invitation from Chris Gorman, and the hospitality of the Gorman Winery family! It was a day to remember, with great weather, and the few short hours we spent their went by way too fast.
