Next year will mark the 44th anniversary of Wisconsin's second largest winery, Three Lakes Winery, founded on the original cranberry wine by the late John McCain and his wife Maureen in 1972. Brothers Mark and Scott McCain now run the family business, which has grown from producing around 30,000 bottles a year to more than 400,000. Scott is the winemaker, while Mark serves as president and general manager.
Three Lakes winery gift shop and tasting room reside in a completely renovated train depot in the small northern Wisconsin town of Three Lakes. The atmosphere and decór of the gourmet gift shop invites customers to relax and enjoy a tasting. Copper ceilings, warm red walls, antique displays and tiffany lighting surround the original train depot archway over the tasting counter.
"It's about the wine. It's about the product, so it's all about sampling it, and making sure that people have an opportunity to get a free sample. They can try the wines and make sure that they find what they want." – Mark McCain.
As many as 20,000 visitors stop by every year for free winery tours and free tastings, and to purchase from a wide selection of award-winning wines. The winery uses "whole berry" fermentation to create semi-sweet fruit wines from whole fruits and berries, with no flavorings or grape wines added. Anchored by Wisconsin's Original Cranberry Wine, the winery's offerings are as extensive as they are varied. Fruit & berry varieties include strawberry rhubarb, blackberry, elderberry, blueberry, pomegranate, pumpkin, and many others. Traditional Three Lakes Winery offerings include Riesling, Pinot Grigio, Zinfandel, Chardonnay, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon.
"I'm proud of our customers, because they're adventurers. They're willing to try things that are different. They don't want to be restrained by what they're supposed to like." – Mark McCain.
During the months of October through December, Three Lakes Winery packages their popular blend of gold medal Cranberry Wine and Rhubarb Wine in this festive, holiday label. It's the perfect choice for gift giving - and of course, to serve with your holiday meals. The custom label was printed digitally on silver metallized paper with 5 colors, CMYK plus white. The design also includes super matte and high rub gloss spot varnishes, and a special shape cutting die.
